I am Nigel Abbott and I come from a long line of gardeners where gardening was nurtured from an early age as a natural part of every day life. My great uncle Ernie Massey was the Curator of the Christchurch (NZ) Botanical Gardens during the 1930's. He also landscaped and planted the original farm garden where I was raised. On both sides of my family there are either professional or avid home gardeners - so for me being with plants is as natural as breathing. Sometimes it feel like I have been genetically programmed!

Having worked in Australian Gardens for over 20 years and been witness to how Victorian gardeners have had to continually modify their gardening practices as our available water reserves diminish, my underlying philosophy is to support and encourage sustainable methods of gardening. As a basic tenet of my business practice I promote a greening of the environment, especially for those of us who live and work in an inner city location, through the notion of greening the work place/ home space as a means to achieving living and working in a healthier environment.

While I graduated with a Ph.D in English from La Trobe University, my enjoyment, satisfaction and need continues to draw me to gardening and its many diversions. Plants and landscape are essential components for living a successful 21st Century life style if  creativity, vibrancy and harmony are to be fulfilled.
